Here are synopses of the DVD movies in Spiritual Cinema Circle’s Vol. 12 issue for December, 2007.
Ousmane
This lovely African short follows a young boy as he travels through his village, offering wishes instead of money for the things he needs. His innocence and true intentions lead him safely, while we get a new perspective on Christmas, Santa Claus, prayers and dreams. This film is an international take on holiday spirit! 15 minutes in French with English subtitles. Written by Remi Mazet and directed by Dyana Gaye.
Elephant’s Egg
This surreal short film borrows much from Salvador Dali, opening the imagination to all kinds of strange creatures and lands. The true story of the film is one of love, sought and surrendered, while the filmmaker’s vision brings us very close to viewing a true dream state. 18 minutes in English. Written and directed by Sam Yousefian.
Christmas at the Bait Shop
Last year we brought you the fascinating documentary feature Wild Parrots Of Telegraph Hill, and now we present Pelican Media’s newest short from the same filmmakers. This film studies the birds that live and play around Keith Fraser’s famous Loch Lomond Bait Shop in San Raphael, California. Surrounded by friends, Keith introduces us to Nasty, Wee Willie and Ahab as we are once again brought into a world few humans know well. 6 minutes in English. Directed by Judy Irving (sound recording by Mark Bittner).
What’s Bugging Seth?
The lead character of this quirky, romantic comedy is hearing impaired (as is the filmmaker, Eli Steele) and trying to navigate a career, love, and friendship while also battling his own internal beliefs about failure and uccess. This film brings to the forefront many issues about disabilities, their gifts and their challenges, reminding us that in the end, we each need to strive for our best life, never settling for anything less, no matter what our circumstances. Listen in after the film to an enlightening discussion with Stephen and Eli. 95 minutes in English. Written and directed by Eli Steele.
